Dear European Polar Research Community,
Welcome to the European Polar Board (EPB) Summer newsletter! We would like to update you about our members' long term activities.
The EPB has currently 29 members from 21 different countries. Representatives and alternative representatives of our member institutions convene twice a year at the EPB Plenary meetings, where they discuss their scientific and organisational priorities.
At the last Plenary meeting in Spring 2023, the EPB Plenary elected a new Executive Committee (EXCOM) member, Miguel "Miki" Ojeda (CSIC), after Vito Vitale (CNR) stepped down having completed two full terms as an EXCOM member. Marie-Noelle Houssais (CNRS), continues onto a second term on the EPB EXCOM.
There were also changes in the EPB Plenary representation. The EPB Plenary welcomed several new representatives and said goodbye to Dick Van der Kroef (NWO) who has retired. The EPB Plenary also mourned after the passing of Andrés Barbosa (CSIC Alternate representative). See the whole list of the EPB representatives and alternate representatives here.
Besides collaboration of the EPB members at the Plenary meetings, the EPB members also work together in Action groups. The most recent product of the Action Group on Environmental Impacts of Polar Research and Logistics is the Synthesis Report on the Environmental Impacts of Research and Logistics in the Polar Regions.
The EPB has also released it's new Strategy for the period of 2023-2027. The strategy was developed with an inclusive approach based on input from all EPB Members and reflects the three pillars to the EPB’s work: Coordination, Collaboration and Communication.
In this newsletter you can find selected highlights of EPB members' activities, as well as upcoming events highlighted by the EPB members (at the bottom of this newsletter).
Kind regards from the EPB Secretariat
