About the challenge:
In a lead-up to COP28 Space4Innovation and GEO Indigenous Alliance in collaboration with Madison Shakespeare an East Coast Saltwater Aboriginal Woman from Australia who is a scholar at Flinders University and at the Institute of Culture and Society, Western Sydney University invites the submission of short 1-2 minute social media video clips that showcase the valuable role played by First Nations Peoples’ place-based practices that focus on care of the natural environment to achieve planetary wellbeing!
Why participate?
- Showcase Your First Nation Practices: Your video will spotlight the practices that reflect your First Nation's care for the environment on a global stage. Demonstrating how your cultural knowledge and practices contribute to global health, emphasizing their crucial role in achieving and sustaining planetary well-being.
- Connect with First Nations Globally: Explore and connect with practices from other First Nations, fostering opportunities for cross-cultural collaboration and learning.
- Chance for Global Recognition: Selected clips will be featured in a compilation played on December 10, 2023, at the "Indigenous-Led Climate Action: Democratizing Space Data for Planetary Wellbeing and Education" side event hosted in the Greening Education Pavilion at COP 28.
- Exclusive opportunity: By participating, you stand a chance to win an opportunity to engage in an Australian First Nations online yarning workshop led by Madison Shakespeare—a Gadigal Traditional Owner Scholar, Lawyer, and Artist from Australia. Other specialist panel members will include First Nations business, design and communication educational mentors and COP delegates.
- Indigenous Solutionists Forward Movement: There are 8 positions in this yarning forum. These 8 selected entrants will share First Nations strategies, discuss solutions to challenges in anticipation of moving forward positively by harnessing solutions that grow and realize your Communities’ ideas through implementing First Nations knowledges and practices.
How to participate:
Create: Make a short 1-2 minute social media video clip to show the rest of the world what you are doing in your Community or what you would like to achieve through implementing place-based Indigenous knowledges and practices as part of your role as Custodian of Country.
In the clip tell us:
Where you are located in the world and what First Nations Community(ies) you represent
What stage your project is up to (it’s ok if it’s just an idea that you want to grow or a work in progress)
The inspiration behind starting this project
How your initiative contributes to the care of our natural environment this can include educating others around you about environmental sustainability
At least 3 things that would help advance your project
Importantly, as this is an opportunity to potentially showcase your practices to audiences following and attending COP28 we respectfully ask that your clip does not include any political and or religious content so that it is within the Green Hub Conference Guidelines.

Who can participate:
