New book on the legal regulation of oil and gas exploration in the marine Arctic is now available.
Rachael Lorna Johnstone, Professor and Head of the Faculty of Law at the University of Akureyri, has published a new book, Offshore Oil and Gas Development in the Arctic under International Law: Risk and Responsibility.
This timely book explores the international law that governs hydrocarbon exploration and exploitation in the marine Arctic. It examines the rights and responsibilities of coastal States to seabed resources in light of environmental law and the rights of indigenous and other local Arctic populations. It also explores the consequences for States that fail to meet these standards or if there is a major pollution incident.
Offshore Oil and Gas Development in the Arctic is published by international publishing house Brill within the widely acclaimed series, Queen Mary Studies in International Law. It is in English and can be purchased from the Brill website.
