The Arctic Economic Council (AEC) is an independent organization created by the Arctic Council that will facilitate Arctic business-to-business activities and responsible economic development, as well as the sharing of best practices, technological solutions, standards and other information.
It works closely with the Arctic Council membership, providing advice and a business perspective on specific areas of cooperation in the circumpolar region. The members represent all types of businesses that operate in the Arctic – from mining and shipping companies to reindeer herding and Aboriginal Economic Development Corporations. This mix of interests ensures that its work is carried out in an inclusive and sustainable manner. The AEC's work is driven by 3 working groups: Stewardship in the Arctic, Maritime Transportation, Responsible Resource Development.
The AEC was established in Iqaluit, Nunavut September 2-3, 2014 during the Canadian chairmanship of the Arctic Council, and now its own website is online at arcticeconomiccouncil.com.
