Youth Eco Forum

Northern Forum held a very successful youth Eco-Forum in Akureyri the hometown of Arctic Portal from 7-10 October. Halldór Jóhannsson the executive director of Arctic Portal met the children, listened to their reports and was very impressed with their work.

In total, 40 children from Northern Forum member-regions took part in it: from Nenets Autonomous Okrug, Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug, Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, Yakutia, Japan and Iceland.

Youth Eco-Forum is an annual event held by the Northern Forum with the support of one of the member regions of the Northern Forum. This year the forum was organized with the support of the municipality of Akureyri. On the first day, mayor of Akureyri, Ásthildur Sturludóttir visited the forum and wished participants good luck.

Within three days, participants listened to the lectures from representatives of two working groups of the Arctic Council: the Conservation of Arctic Flora and Fauna Working Group (CAFF) and the Protection of the Arctic Marine Environment Working Group (PAME), as well as from the Arctic Portal represented by the Director Halldor Johannsson.

On the last day, participants presented their reports on various topics such as Biodiversity, Water Resourses Conservation, Innovation, etc.
