Yesterday, in the heart of Paris, the One Planet – Polar Summit commenced under the leadership of French President Emmanuel Macron, marking a gathering of several hundred glaciologists, scientists, and global leaders.
This prominent event is a part of the Paris Peace Forum "Seeking Common Grounds in a World of Rivalry". It is co-organized by the Arctic Circle and encompasses a series of seminars and culminates in a final meeting steered by President Macron himself.
At the core of these deliberations lies a critical concern – the alarming melting of ice and glaciers in the Arctic, Antarctica, and the Himalayan region, often referred to as the "Third Pole."
President Macron plans to unveil a special Arctic declaration on the final day of the summit.
Alongside Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson from the Arctic Circle, European and Asian Prime Ministers and other Ministers will contribute their insights to the One Planet – Polar Summit. An impressive turnout from 35 countries ensures a diverse and comprehensive exchange of ideas during the summit.
The summit is hosted at the Natural History Museum of France and spans from the 8th to the 10th of November.
