Arctic Circle, Emerson Collective, and Nia Tero jointly hosted a special Action Summit on December 4th at the COP28 in Dubai, led by Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson, Laurene Jobs, Peter Seligmann, and Andy Kasner. The session, organized in collaboration with COP28 President Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, took place at the renowned Museum of the Future.
During the Action Summit, innovative approaches to positively impact the world were deliberated upon. The primary focus was on climate and clean energy initiatives, fostering trust and cooperation for sustained success. Approximately 200 international leaders and entrepreneurs, predominantly from science, public affairs, and technology, prominent business executives, indigenous communities, and influential youth attended the summit.
The session concluded with a compelling address by COP28 President Dr. Sultan Al Jaber. He provided a detailed overview of the ongoing negotiations, highlighting significant accomplishments and emphasizing the COP28 leadership's commitment to extensive consultations. These consultations extended not only to all countries worldwide but also involved young people, indigenous communities, scientists, experts, and individuals capable of effecting changes in the global energy system toward cleaner and sustainable sources. The audience responded to this message with a standing ovation.
Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair and former US presidential candidate and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton actively participated in the discussions. Additionally, ministers from various regions, researchers, experts, executives from major international companies such as Google, Exxon, and SINOPEC, and representatives of indigenous communities and small island states were active contributors.
The Action Summit showcased progressive thinking and proposed strategies for trust-building and effective cooperation. Discussions encompassed the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) and culminated in a historic agreement on the opening day of COP28. Topics included energy exchange, access to capital, innovation, technology, and carbon capture, with a subsequent exploration of creating a new model for international cooperation.
