Global Cycling Initiative Targets Plastic Pollution
- Details
Logistics company Gebrüder Weiss is launching the fifth edition of its international cycling initiative, “GWcycles,” on April 1. The campaign aims to combine sustainable mobility with measurable environmental impact by encouraging participants worldwide to collectively cycle one million kilometers. If the goal is reached, up to ten tons of plastic waste will be removed from rivers and coastal regions.
Turning Every Kilometer into Action
The concept behind GWcycles is simple yet effective: for every kilometer cycled, Gebrüder Weiss funds the collection and proper disposal of ten grams of plastic waste. The initiative is once again being implemented in partnership with Berlin-based environmental company CleanHub, which specializes in preventing plastic from entering oceans.
“GWcycles shows how easy it is to combine sustainable mobility with tangible environmental action – kilometer by kilometer,” said Frank Haas, Head of Corporate Brand Strategy & Communications at Gebrüder Weiss.
Open to Participants Worldwide
The campaign is open to anyone around the globe. Participants can track their cycling distances using the free Radbonus app, which is compatible with most common fitness trackers. Incentives are available starting from just 50 kilometers, with all rewards made from recycled materials, reinforcing the campaign’s sustainability focus.
How to Join
Since its launch, GWcycles has aimed to raise awareness of eco-friendly transportation while actively addressing plastic pollution in waterways. Those interested in taking part can find more information and register at: www.gw-world.com/gwcycles
