The latest edition of the "Arctic Herald" journal is now available online. The information and analytical journal, published by the Russian Geographical Society, was first released in 2012 and "conceived as the platform for communication amonf the expert community, as well as all those engaged and interested in the problems of today's Arctic", as stated by Sergey Lavrov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, for the first number of the journal.
"The journal is intended to assist in realization of one of the Russian priority in the region" -- he continues --- "its development as a zone of peace, stability, cooperation and prosperity for the benefit of all people living there".
Constructive dialogue and active interaction between the Arctic States in order to mantain the Arctic as an area of peace and development have been a priority since the first number and yet is today. Indeed,three years later and during a "complicated geopolitical situation"-- mostly due to the Ukrainian crisis-- "It is extremely important that the Arctic remains the zone of peace and cooperation", the Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Rogozin, wrote for the latest edition of te journal. He continues: "The task of the Russian Federation is to ensure a full-fledged implementation of its economic goals in the Arctic without neglecting the need of preserving its ecosystem, the unique nature, and the interests of small indigenous peoples of the North living in this region, and to be prepared to new challenges – the climatic change. To achieve this, we need a balanced, well-founded and scientifically supported approach and constructiveinteraction of the Arctic, and not only the Arctic, states in the development of the Arctic territories".
