The Arctic Circle began this morning in Reykjavík, Iceland with many interesting topics and sessions. Among the topics of today are the foreign policy of Greenland and U.S.A. as well as security issues in the Arctic and science collaboration.
Speakers at the opening session are Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson Chairman of the Arctic Circle and former president of Iceland, Katrín Jakobsdóttir the Prime Minister of Iceland, Antti Rinne the Prime Minister of Finland, Victoria the Crown Princess of Sweden, Kim Kielsen the Premier of Greenland, Rick Perry the Secretary of Energy U.S.A., Dmitry Artyukhov Governor of Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, Jenis av Rana the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Education Faroe Islands, Ségolène Royal Ambassador for the Arctic and Antarctic Poles, former Minister of the Environment France, Sam Tan Chin Siong Minister of State, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Social and Family Development Singapore, Dalee Sambo Dorough Chair of the Inuir Circumpolar Council, Paula Lehtomäki Secretary General Nordic Council of Ministers and Jeppe Kofod Minister of Foreign Affairs of Denmark.
A memorial lecture An Arctic without End: Visions for our Planet in an Age of the Anthropocene dedicated to the explorer Vilhjálmur Stefánsson will be held tonight October 10.
The Arctic Circle forum is from 10-13 October.
