The 3rd International Competition, "White World of the Arctic through the Prism of Children's Book," held its award ceremony in Yakutsk on 10 November 2023.
The primary objective of the competition is to foster a positive northern identity, identify talented authors, illustrators, and creators of children's literature and films. Numerous writers and explorers draw parallels between the North and the Arctic, likening it to a blank canvas where individuals can inscribe their life narratives or envision a world characterized by permafrost and ice. This theme encapsulates the emotional essence of the North and the Arctic, influencing the approach taken in the face of the region's harsh natural environment.
The President's Fund for Cultural Initiatives generously supported this year's edition of the "White World of the Arctic through the Prism of Children's Book" competition. Participants from various Russian regions, such as the Republic of Komi, Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, Nenets Autonomous Okrug, Murmansk, Rostov, Arkhangelsk region, Krasnoyarsk region, Moscow, and St. Petersburg, were joined by representatives from the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The competition featured around 100 selected creative projects across nine categories, assessed by 11 external experts. At the ceremony, all winners were honored with personalized trophies and diplomas, recognizing their outstanding contributions to the portrayal of the Arctic world through the lens of children's literature and creativity.
