The Arctic Circle Berlin Forum kicks off tomorrow, May 7th, and continues through the following day. With more than 30 seminars featuring over 130 speakers representing 20+ countries, the Berlin Forum will explore the role of Science, Climate Policies and Europe in the future of the Arctic.
Distinguished guests include two German government ministers: Bettina Stark-Watzinger, Federal Minister of Education and Research, and Steffi Lemke, Federal Minister for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection. Angus Robertson, Cabinet Secretary for Constitution, External Affairs and Culture of the Scottish Government, will engage in discussions centered around green energy. Additionally, Albert II, Prince of Monaco, renowned for his leadership in glacier preservation and ocean conservation, will deliver a special address on the second day of the session.
The opening speeches will be delivered by Áslaug Arna Sigurbjörnsdóttir, Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation of Iceland, and Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson, Chairman of Arctic Circle, setting the stage for the Berlin Congress.
Joining them will be numerous representatives from Europe and the Nordic countries, along with scientists, experts, and indigenous community leaders, collectively contributing to the rich tapestry of discussions.
Themes to be explored include global political dynamics, the Arctic Council's role in fostering scientific cooperation among observer states, Norway's chairship of the Arctic Council, and the involvement of European nations in Nordic affairs.
This 2024 Arctic Circle Berlin Forum is hosted by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research of Germany and co-organized with the German Arctic Office at the Alfred Wegener Institution Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research (AWI). The location of the Forum is at the Radialsystem Culture and Event Centre in Berlin - Holzmarktstr. 33.
