The extraction of Arctic primary resources as well as the generation, utilization and transportation of energy has many implications. This applies to both the macro and the micro scale - micro being effects on individuals, families and businesses and macro a nation as a whole.
Especially the penetration of resource intensive industries and activities has led to a strong dependency of local communities on resource production, global boom and bust cycles but also questions of economic diversification and sustainable development.
In this section we aim at providing an overview over socioeconomic and environmental impacts on specific local communities throughout the circumpolar North.
